The Council has put in place arrangements for undertaking a detailed assessment of all of its functions and policies over the next three years.
Through the process of Impact Assessments the Council will be able to determine whether services and employment practices meet the needs of specific groups and help to lead to improvements in equality. The Assessments will make reference to all equality categories as described in the Council’s Equality and Diversity Policy.
By undertaking Impact Assessments the Council will be able to make real changes to the quality of peoples’ lives and make tangible improvements in relation to the delivery of its services.
Impact Assessments will be undertaken on all existing functions and policies which have been determined as being relevant to equality and which have been prioritised for a more detailed review. In addition to the above, every new function and policy will undergo an assessment of its likely impact on different groups.
The Council has developed guidance and a toolkit on Equality Impact Assessments. This toolkit outlines the Council’s approach to assessment and training has been introduced to equip our policy makers with the skills and knowledge required to undertake Impact Assessments.

All Impact Assessments involving public consultation will be logged on the “-Ask Me! Consultation Planner and Finder”. This comprehensive and simple to use database will enable us to join up consultation exercises, plan what we do and share what we learn.
