The wise use of water is essential to meet our present requirements and to ensure we don't compromise the ability of future generations to meet their needs. Whilst our grandparents used an average of 18 litres a day each, today this figure has increased to 130 litres. Demand has increased steadily over the last 20 years and if the trend continues, by 2020 we may need as third as much again per person.
Our climate is becoming more extreme. 1998/99 saw some of the worst floods for years, yet the last decade gave us 3 of the hottest summers on record. Climate change predictions indicate that our winters are going to get wetter, whilst summers are likely to become hotter and drier. In other words, less clean water will be available when we need it most.
