The site was tipped prior to 1974 up until 1980. It was filled with a mixture of domestic and non hazardous commercial wastes which accounted for the tipped volume of 453,000m3. The site is roughly 7.5 hectares in area all of which is now restored and grassed.
The site was designed as a containment site due to the local geology. It lies within the lower lias clays and these provide a good natural liner to the site.
The site was restored using a layer of clay 0.5 - 1 metre in depth.
Hampton is now home to a host of wildlife.
