Hanbury Road, Nr Droitwich.

Hanbury Wharf Landfill site

June 1977

Hanbury Wharf is a closed Landfill site that was operational pre 1974 and closed in 1983. It accepted Domestic household waste and non-hazardous commercial wastes.

It has an average waste depth of 7 metres, a maximum of 12 metres and a minimum of 3 metres. It accepted 581,000m3 of waste over an area of 8.3 hectares.

The site today has 11 internal gas abstraction wells that are part of a gas control system that comprises of a 250m3/hr flare that is used to flare off the landfill gas. This type of active control system ensures that minimal gas migrates off the site.

In 2001 a further 28 external gas monitors were drilled to permit the continued improvement in the environmental monitoring of the site.
