Worcestershire Sustainability Success Story
What’s it all about? The Worcestershire Climate Change Pledge enables local organisations to demonstrate their commitment to tackling climate change. Organisations can choose to sign up to as many actions as they wish. Actions are given 1, 2 or 3 stars, according to their level of ease of implementation. They cover topics such as reducing energy use, staff travel planning, minimising waste, raising awareness and assessing the impacts of climate change. Each year, organisations that have signed up to the pledge report on their progress. |

Who’s involved? The pledge was developed by the Worcestershire Climate Change Group, part of the Worcestershire Partnership. So far, 19 organisations have signed up to the pledge, including the Learning & Skills Council, Chamber of Commerce, Worcester Diocesan Office, Job Centre Plus, Worcester University, Worcestershire Wildlife Trust and several district councils and private businesses. |
Where next?
All Worcestershire organisations are invited to sign up to the pledge and a number are in the process of doing so. A website provides advice on carrying out each of the actions and a monthly newsletter helps in updating organisations and communicating good practice. The pledge has also been adapted for use by schools across the West Midlands and a version of the pledge for community groups has been developed.
